Hi! I’m Sarah, founder of PaleoTrip.com. Welcome! I hope you enjoy the site. Here’s a short history of me and why I started PaleoTrip.com…
I was born in a small town…hmm… maybe I should start a bit more recently. I did say “short history” after all. Well, in 2010 I started struggling with many health issues brought on by a bad combo of Candida overgrowth topped with antibiotics, poor dietary choices and stress. It took several years for me to be diagnosed properly — Intestinal permeability (a.k.a. Leaky Gut), Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), parasites, systemic Candida infection and more — and a couple more years for me to learn how to improve my health, but eventually I discovered that a diet free from grains, dairy, legumes and processed sugars would be the cornerstone of my recovery. In addition to embracing a Paleo diet, I’ve worked hard to reduce stress and increase rest and relaxation. I’ve cut back on my hours at my day job as a Data Engineer and ensure that every day includes either walking, yoga, meditation, sauna, massage or other form of gentle, mindful activities. I’m not yet fully healed but if I continue to honor my body and give it what it needs, I am going to be there soon.
In the beginning of my illness, I found that eating out and travelling were so stressful, as I’d often be unable to find anything I could safely eat. These days, thanks to my obsessive tendencies toward organization and of course my desire to eat, I never eat at a restaurant anymore that I haven’t researched the heck out of ahead of time to ensure that I could eat there. Before going on vacations, I spend hours researching restaurants and making notes of ones that have Paleo-friendly (and therefore Sarah-friendly) options. I’ve found very few sites to help, so I created PaleoTrip.com in hopes that as a community of Paleo Trippers we can together build a site that makes it easier to find places where we can embrace our inner foodies while still honoring our health and dietary choices. Thankfully I am surrounded by friends and family that are supportive of my needs, as well.

I look forward to a wonderful journey together to embrace the caveman (or cavewoman) in all of us!
